Mechanic & Bike Store

Trail Mechanic Logo

Ghostgum 1000

Thank you to Trail Mechanic and Ghost Gum Bikes for their support during the event.

There will be mechanical support in Gundy at the event village and at the Rest Stops.

They will have track pumps, mechanic stand and basic spares including tubes.

They have Credit Card facilities for anything which riders need to purchase.

This basic mechanical assistance is free to the goodnessgravel riders.

There will be First Aid at Gundy, Rest Stop 1 and Rest Stop 2.

There will be two roaming First Aid vehicles on course.

They are NOT support vehicles and will NOT be able to assist with mechanical issues.

We have a sweep vehicle after the last rider.

This is for safety and that is its primary purpose. It should NOT be relied on for spares.

If you are waiting for this vehicle for support &/or to fix your bike, you may be waiting for a long time and it will be a slow transfer to either the Rest Stop or back to Start/Finish area.

Please also note that there is ONLY so much space and it may not be able to sweep you.

The vehicle may take you to the Rest Stop or bring you back to Gundy but it is there to bring up the end of the field. It will not deviate away from this focus.

If you have had a major mechanical there will be a mini bus and bike trailer at the Timor Rest Stop and at the end of the event, it will return to Gundy.

Rest Stop 1       (F) 8:54am    /   (L) 10:00am

75km

Depart Gundy (F) 7:38am      /   (L) 7:41am

Rest Stop 1     (F) 9:00am     /   (L) 10:00am

Arrive Gundy  (F) 10:00am  /   (L) 11:47am

The above is based on the slowest riding times of 18kph with time allotted for Rest Stop(s).

Note : riding this course at 18kph will take you 7:30 - that is without stopping - this distance is NOT for the faint hearted.

Our strong recommendation is that you keep on pedalling throughout the day. Work on ensuring you return to Gundy in the shortest possible time. Therefore stopping at the Rest Stop(s) should be limited and your training program, particularly for the 135km riders, is set no less than 18kph.

Tired on the course? If you are doing the 135km and get to the Rest Stop in Timor at ~42km there is always the option of turning around doing the 75km course.

Riders doing the 75km course, have MORE time because they are riding on the same return course.

The sweep vehicle is travelling at a pace to arrive back to Gundy at 3:16pm when the event has finished. If riders are passed by the sweep, you have the option to continue riding the remainder of the course but will be outside of the event services.

NOTE : our food and entertainment are scheduled to finish up at Gundy at 3:30pm.

Rider Number

Your rider number : the early bird catches the worm. We are assigning rider numbers for LIFE.

This means that for ALL future goodnessgravel events you will retain this unique number.

Riders will receive their number in the order which they are received.

So if you are the FIRST rider to sign up for the event then you get the #1 plate for LIFE.

We have been lucky enough to have been associated with bike events for years and this is something that we longed for over the years.

So get in early and lock in your spot … who is going to be #1?

Also, we really want to try and reduce the amount of plastic we have around the course.

We cannot totally eliminate it but there are some things we can do to less our impact.

Zip ties are brilliant things but we always find them all over the place once an event is over … so we are giving riders TWINE to lace up their race numbers.

If you want to BYO ties, please feel free to do so.

Bike / Climbs : Gundy

Bikes : Bring your gravel or e-Gravel ... or ... if you do not have a gravel bike, do the ride on your MTB or e-MTB

See the Surface Tab for more details.

DO NOT bring a road or road-e bike, all courses are NOT suitable any style of road bike, even if they have ‘wide’ tires. Leave them at home!

Please make sure that you have had your bike recently serviced and all the components are in good order. You have checked your tires and lubed your chain before you head out on course.

Tire Width : we believe that the fatter the tire the more comfortable you will be, put on the widest tire, with tread, that your bike can handle, minimum 38-40mm.

How Difficult : These rides ARE NOT for beginner cyclists.

All riders are expected to have experience in riding long distances in remote areas. You are also required to have knowledge in following a GPS course on their Garmin (or similar) and also how to hydrate and stay on top of your nutrition during long rides.

Steepness  : on the 125km course there are sections of +14% and for the 75km course there are sections of +10% - come prepared and do some training before the ride.

Climbs 125km : there is one very long climb on the course where riders go over 958m above sea-level on the course.

The 125km ride has over 2,500m of climbing and there is over 55% of gravel roads on the course.

Gundy 125 Profile 2021

Climbs 75km : there are three climbs where riders go over 520m above sea-level.

The 75km ride has over 1,500m of climbing and there is around 67% of gravel roads on the course.

COVID-19 / QR code

UPDATES in regards to COVID will be communicated with our registered riders via email.

We will be following NSW Health and Government Guidelines.

For the event in Gundy on Sunday 21 November 2021

Good news, NSW has reached 80% double vaccination and restrictions have eased further. So goodnessgravel Gundy is ON!!

The NSW Government has confirmed that travel between Greater Sydney and regional NSW for fully-vaccinated people is possible from November 1.

According to NSW Government Regulations, ALL our riders MUST be FULLY VACCINATED to participate in the goodnessgravel Gundy event on Sunday 21 November 2021.

We want you to understand that this is a NSW Government Regulation and we cannot run our event if we do not follow these rules.

Your double vaccination status will be checked when registering.

No Proof = No Ride

For MORE details on the NSW 80% restrictions -

LINK (https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/easing-covid-19-restrictions/80-percent

If you are not vaccinated, please email us TODAY so that we can give you a credit to one of our events in 2022.

Things continue to change but we anticipate that the above will not alter for our event on Sunday 21 November 2021.

It should go without saying, if you are FEELING UNWELL, get a COVID check and stay at home until the result comes back negative.

We are required by the NSW Government to follow all safety guidelines including:

It is mandatory that we have COVID-Safe check-ins and we get your PROOF OF VACCINATION which is required for all our staff, volunteers and riders.

Please respect peoples physical distancing, we are in outdoor situations so our requirement is 1 person per 2 sqm

Masks - According to NSW Government, they are no longer required in outdoor settings so riders are not expected to wear them.

If and when you are inside, you will be required to wear a mask.

Please make sure that you have your Vaccination Certificate downloaded to your e-wallet or similar and that it is available off-line so that we can check it off when you register.

For showing your Vaccination Certificate on your Phone - Please note that the mobile phone coverage in Gundy is not fantastic. It may be difficult to sign in via the QR COVID Check-in or access your mobile data due to Gundy being in a remote area.

Optus and Vodaphone have VERY limited coverage in Gundy and surrounds. Telstra has ‘pretty good’ coverage.

If you cannot QR COVID Check-in, as this is a ticketed event, we already have your information on file. We will have a ‘Record of your Visit’.

Riders will be required to Check In via the Service NSW App on the morning of the event. You will be Checking-In to our parent company twowheeltours.

During these COVID times, we ask that riders DO not spit OR snot when in the bunch or around any communal areas such as the registration area and Village, bathrooms and rest stops.

Under these circumstances let's take COVID as an opportunity to raise the bar when it comes to cycling & cycling events in terms of general hygiene. Nobody wants to be the recipient of another person's body fluid.

Also we encourage you to please refrain from shaking hands and definitely NO sharing of bottles.

In sum, stay away from sharing any for bodily fluids & keep your distance, please.

It should go without saying, if you OR if someone you live with becomes/is sick, please stay home.

We will be keeping an eye on all Government regulations. We are a COVID Safe business and will continue to treat this pandemic in a serious fashion.

If for any reason we have to CANCEL the event due to Bad Weather or COVID, all money paid will be used a CREDIT for the next edition of the event.

All riders who have registered for the event will have priority registration for that next event.

We will give all riders who have registered for that particular event a 7 day window to confirm their spot before we open for bookings to the general public for the next edition of the goodnessgravel event.

If we do have to cancel, we understand that things change. We will allow for all riders to transfer their entries to another rider without penalty. See Transfer Entry TAB on Event Information for more information on transferring entries.

We are a small business and these events take a lot of work to get up and running. We appreciate your understanding and for you support.

Surface / Water Crossing : Gundy

Surface : the conditions of the roads are generally good hard packed gravel roads. There is always the chance that there will be sections of potholes and corrugations. There are some steep ascents and descents on gravel so care must be taken and riders should ride to their own abilities.

There are also some fantastic tarmac sections along both courses. For the 135km course the final 'leg' home is along a beautiful undulating quiet country road.

DO NOT bring a road or road-e bike, both courses are NOT suitable any style of road bike, even if they have ‘wide’ tires. Leave them at home!

We will be driving the course the week of the event and any major issues will be communicated to our riders via email in the WEEK BEFORE. This is also when riders will receive the Strava and Ride With GPS links for GPX files.

Water crossing : all riders will cross the ISIS River at around 33km on course, in 'normal' conditions the weir is roughly 20m in length and 15cm 'deep'.

It all depends on the weather leading up to the event. If the water crossing is extremely high, we can re-route the course.

Depending on the weather in the lead up to event, there may be extra water crossings. We will update riders as mentioned above.

Insurance :

You are responsible to cover yourself for this event.

We highly recommend that you organise your own Third Party Public Liability and Personal Accident Insurance.

If you have a membership with Bicycling NSW, AusCycling or similar, this will cover you.

We suggest you join one of the above and if you select AUSCycling they offer a policy for as little as $7 for their Lifestyle Cover - valid for ONE month only. Alternatively, you can get  Individual membership for one year with BicycleNSW - $125.

For more information : AUSCycling OR BicycleNSW

It is also highly recommended that riders have their own Private Health Insurance which also has Ambulance cover.

To confirm, registered riders will be emailed the Strava and Ride With GPS link including GPX file the week of the event

We are waiting this close to the event because of road, gravel and weather conditions.

It is expected that riders have the route on a GPS device with mapping capabilities such as a Garmin (or similar). Riders will be in remote areas where there will be NO mobile phone coverage.

If you do not have a Garmin (or similar), you must download the App Ride With GPS to your smart phone. Riders can download the Map so they can use the course when Offline, i.e. when out of mobile phone reception. For more information see the Ride With GPS help page - LINK.

In addition we have marked the course in three ways.

1)  There will be arrows at major intersections

2) There will be orange arrows sprayed on the ground

3) There will be orange tape marking trees at major intersections and then more tape soon after those corners.

We need to make sure that you have the GPS downloaded on to your device incase the arrows have been removed or altered.

Riders MUST use their GPS to assist in guiding through the course. It is also helpful to keep an eye on total distance and the time which you have been on the bike.

There are two options to use to follow the course on your smart phone

Option 1 : Ride With GPS

You must have the Ride With GPS App on your phone. The logo for this App is predominately black with an orange rider.

Once you have this App on your phone you can click the Course link - or sms it to yourself - and then the course will open it in that application.

Then tap the ‘bulls-eye’ on the bottom right of the screen to show ‘your location’.

Then follow the blue dot as you go around the course, following the red line.

You do NOT need to be a premium member to follow the route.

Option 2 : Strava

You must have the Strava App on your phone. The logo for this App is predominately orange with two white triangles/mountains.

Once you have this App on your phone you can click the Course link - or sms it to yourself - and then the course will open it in that application.

Then tap the ‘Use Route’ on the bottom of the screen then tap ’start’, also at the bottom.

That will bring up a large screen with numbers on it.

To bring up the map, click the bottom right smaller circle within a circle and that will bring up the map over the entire screen.

Then follow the blue dot as you go around the course, following the blue line.

You do NOT need to be a premium member to follow the route.

Location Sharing

For your safety, we HIGHLY recommend that you Share YOUR Location during the event

On the day you can Share YOUR Location via google ‘Location Sharing’.

We are recommending this for safety.

We will delete all sharing of locations after the event.

A reminder, all riders will need to check-in when they collect their ride plate & goodness bag and then check-in again when they finish the event to pick up their finishers pin and t-shirt if selected during the booking phase.

The process of setting up Google Share takes a few minutes so please do not try and set this up on the morning of the ride. It is MORE than okay for you to start sharing your location with us prior to the morning of the event.

The steps riders need to follow to share your location are:

  • You need to have the Google Maps App on your smart phone. If you do not have it, download from your App Store. It is free and available on both Apple and Android systems.
  • On Apple it is named ‘Google Maps - Transit & Food’.
  • On Android it is named ‘Maps - Navigate & Explore’.
  • For both Apps, the logo is a White box with a Red, Blue, Yellow & Green circle.
  • You MUST ADD trackgoodnessgravel@gmail.com as a Contact on your smart phone.

Make sure your phone is 100% charged on the morning of the event and that you carry your phone with you on course.

Once the above is done, please follow the steps below:

  • Open the Google Maps App - which will bring up a map and Blue dot of where you are.
  • Click the Circle in the top Right Hand Corner, this is located next to where you can type in a location. The circle has your google profile image.
  • Click ‘Location sharing’ - which has an icon of a head with two bars coming out from the ear.
  • Click the ‘Share location’ a Blue box.
  • Increase the time under the heading ‘Share your real-time location’ from 1 hour to ‘Until your turn this off’.
  • Scroll Right through the circles, which is located under ‘Until your turn this off’. Go all the way Right until the circle with three dots on it and the the text ‘More’ - click this box.
  • Click ‘Show phone contacts’ or type in trackgoodnessgravel@gmail.com

We are now able to see your location.

A few steps which may need to be done depending on your settings on your phone:

  1. A screen may pop up asking about ‘Share with a contact’ - click OK.
  2. Another screen will then pop up asking ‘“Google Maps” Would Like to Access Your Contacts’ - you must allow google to access your contacts by clicking OK.
  3. Yet another screen may pop up. This one is if you DO NOT ALLOW google to access your location even when you are not using the app. If this comes up, click ‘Go to Settings’ and click ‘Location’ and click ‘Always’. You can turn this back off when you are finished the event.

Once the event is over, you can then cancel your sharing with the event organisers.

To Cancel:

  1. Open the google map App.
  2. At the very bottom of the screen click on the White box with the text trackgoodnessgravel@gmail.com'
  3. Click ‘Stop’.
  4. Then click the three dots, still on the White box and click ‘Remove from list’
